Intelligent and Distracted: Strategies to Help Outsmart Distractions, Improve Focus and Organization, & Unlock Your Child's Potential
As the saying goes, human brains are as unique as fingerprints.
Neurodivergence is the term used to describe the tendency of a person's brain to analyze and respond to information differently than what is considered typical or average. Neurodiversity refers to the concept of accepting and normalizing brains that function differently, rather than stigmatizing them as abnormalities.
In many home and learning environments, neurodivergent children are expected to conform to the expectations designed for a neurotypical child, which can be challenging for them. As many parents will share, there isn’t an instructional manual on how to identify or properly handle the news that your child has unique learning abilities. Without the proper knowledge, skills, and ability to identify the signs that a child may have diverse learning needs, many parents and educators become frustrated when working with neurodiverse children. This frustration can, in turn, negatively impact the student's learning ability, self-esteem, and self-confidence.
This program aims to equip parents with the necessary insights to effectively support both neurotypical and neurodivergent children. Throughout the program, various types of neurodivergent conditions are covered including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, learning disabilities, and others. Neurodivergent individuals exhibit fundamental differences in social understanding, sensory perception, and information processing, and the subtle differences in the way their brains operate can impact their thinking, learning, and behavior.
Support Group for Parents of Children with ADHD
Nurturing Neurodivergence: Authentically Encourage and Support Neurodivergent Youth - Parents Support Group
Expecting a child is a time full of excitement, emotions, and wonder about what your new child will bring to your family. While self-help books can offer guidance on what to expect during pregnancy and the early years of a child's life, as a parent, you cannot predict discovering that your child has a physical, mental, learning, or neurodevelopmental disorder, such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
And as the saying goes, human brains are as unique as fingerprints.
ADHD is one of the most common neurobehavioral disorders in children. It is not just a problem for the affected child(ren), but it impacts all family members and puts a considerable amount of pressure on parents. Research indicates that parents of children with ADHD experience significantly more stress than neurotypical children due to the emotional and behavioral difficulties related to ADHD.
Neurodivergence is the term used to describe the tendency of a person's brain to analyze and respond to information differently than what is considered typical or average. Neurodiversity refers to the concept of accepting and normalizing brains that function differently, rather than stigmatizing them as abnormalities. This frustration can, in turn, negatively impact the student's learning ability, self-esteem, and self-confidence.
Parents of children with ADHD may sometimes resort to negative parenting behaviors, particularly before their child is diagnosed and the cause of their behavior is understood. These negative behaviors are often referred to as "harsh parenting," which involve physical aggression, such as spanking or slapping, as well as verbal aggression, such as shouting or verbal abuse. Parents may also display intimidating emotions and attitudes, such as anger, insensitivity, and indifference. Unfortunately, this type of parenting can make children feel less cared for and protected and can result in increased conflict between parent and child.
This parental support group Nurturing Neurodivergence is a Safe, Supportive, and Understanding Space for Parents and Caregivers of Children with ADHD. It is a community of parents who have children with ADHD between the ages of 6 and 13. In this community, parents feel understood and validated without fear of judgment or ridicule. This group allows parents to connect with each other, share their experiences, seek advice, and offer support to one another.
This program also aims to equip parents with the necessary insights to effectively support their neurodivergent children. Throughout the program, special emphasis is placed on ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning disabilities. This group will also teach various strategies to address issues related to communication, discipline, decision-making, relationships, self-control, and school success.
