Our core small-group model focuses on the two areas that shape everything else — reading and math. Instead of groups by grade, Academic Advantage™ offers six recognizable pathways: three in literacy, three in numeracy. A child might work in one literacy pathway and a different numeracy pathway at the same time. (Writing, study skills, and test prep are offered as separate workshops — see below.)
Foundational Literacy
The building blocks of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, high-frequency words, spelling patterns, and beginning fluency.
Developing Readers
For students who read independently but need accuracy and fluency: multisyllabic decoding, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies.
Reading for Meaning
Comprehension, vocabulary, main idea, inference, text evidence, and working with increasingly complex informational text.
Foundational Numeracy
Number sense, place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division concepts, fact fluency, and mathematical reasoning.
Fractions & Rational Numbers
Fractions, decimals, percentages, equivalence, ratios, proportional reasoning, and operations with rational numbers.
Math Foundations for Algebra
Expressions, equations, integers, ratios, proportional relationships, variables, and multi-step problem solving.
How placement works
First, every student is placed with peers close to their own age — we group in bands (K–1, 2–3, 4–5, and 6–8) so no child is ever working alongside students much older or younger. Your child stays with their age group.
Within that age band, placement is based on current instructional needs — not grade level alone. Coaches consider assessment information, school performance, parent concerns, and demonstrated skills, so the group works on exactly the right skills at an age-appropriate level.
Placement can change as a student progresses. Moving to another group means instructional needs have changed — it isn't a promotion or a demotion. These aren't levels; they're pathways.
Most parents ask for one-on-one. Here's what the research actually says.
It's a fair instinct — and one-on-one tutoring is highly effective. But small groups of four or fewer are among the most effective academic interventions in all of education, and for many students they offer something one-on-one can't. The difference isn't the number of students. It's how the group is built.
Skill-matched, not grade-matched
Research is clear that grouping works best when every student is targeting the same skill. That's exactly how we place students — so instruction stays focused, not split across different needs.
Four or fewer — on purpose
Studies find groups of two to four are highly effective. Past four, the impact drops and a session starts to feel like a classroom. We cap every group at four so it never does.
Peers add something 1:1 can't
In a small skill-matched group, students hear how others reason, stay motivated alongside peers, and build confidence — without the pressure of being the only one in the room.
Do you offer one-on-one? Yes — when a child needs it.
Some students do need individual instruction, and we offer it. One-on-one spaces are limited and offered primarily on weekends — which keeps our weekday hours open to serve more students in focused small groups. If you think your child needs 1:1, tell us during registration and we'll talk through the best fit.

The core model covers reading and math. For everything else — writing, study skills, test prep, and support for how children learn — we offer focused workshops and programs alongside the skill-based groups.

What Families Ask Most
How many sessions will a $1,500 voucher cover?
A $1,500 voucher covers 25 one-on-one sessions or 37 group sessions. Parents cover the cost of sessions once the voucher is depleted if they wish to continue.
How do I know if my child is eligible for a voucher?
Vouchers are available for qualifying public school students based on academic performance and financial need. Contact us to discuss eligibility.
What subjects do you offer tutoring in?
Mathematics, English Language Arts, Literacy, Reading & Comprehension, and Organizational Skills Training. All services are tailored to meet the needs of each student.
How do I enroll my child?
Complete the registration form and our team will follow up to place your child in the right skill-based group. You can also reach out with questions first.
How are students grouped?
Students are grouped first by age band (K–1, 2–3, 4–5, 6–8), then by the specific skills they're ready to strengthen within that band — so they're always with similar-age peers. A child may work in one literacy pathway and a different numeracy pathway at the same time. Placement can shift as their needs change.
Is online tutoring available?
Yes — however, online tutoring is not effective for every child. If virtual sessions are not working, we will communicate this to the parent and help find a better fit.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please notify us at least 24 hours in advance. Sessions canceled within 4 hours or missed without notice will be charged 50% of the session fee. After three no-call no-shows, students may be removed from the program.
Can parents attend sessions?
Parents are welcome during on-site sessions but cannot become a distraction. For virtual sessions, parents of grades K–2 should remain nearby. Students should be dressed appropriately in a presentable, organized space.
What supplies does my child need?
Students should bring paper, pencil, and a folder for worksheets. Supplies are not provided but are essential for success.
Can vouchers be used for Organizational Skills Training?
No. Vouchers cannot be applied to Organizational Skills Training. This service is available as a private-pay option.
